Mizzou X Champion

Adaptive apparel are textile designs that are specifically made to help the needs of people with physical and non-physical disabilities. It is important to recognize these needs and to create them more represented in apparel designs.

This presentation is comparing non-adaptive brands and adaptive brands in aspects of things such as price point, target market, key attributes, and product categories. Gathering this information will aide in our journey to create our own adaptive apparel line.

Our inspiration stems from bridging the past and present together for the future. Bringing together fans of their university to show off their school pride no matter their age.

Phase I

Every season, Champion launches an elevated collection during back-to-school focused on fleece and outwear silhouettes that are highly customized with collegiate team colorations and graphics. This collection targets the Super Fan consumer, both young and old, showing team pride during the game day season.  In the past, Champion has looked to its heritage styles and silhouettes as inspiration for this collection, taking a nod from vintage styling and making it relevant for today’s consumer. The objective for this project was to create a curated “super fan” collegiate assortment inspired by market trends that can be developed, decorated, and launched into bookstores across the country.

Collegiate and Retail Market Trend Research

Our team is committed to designing an elevated collection of back-to-school focused garments that are highly customized with collegiate team colorations and graphics for the Champion brand. While designing it is important to keep in mind that the target consumer consists of super fans both young and old. While designing, the team will use a combination of both Champions heritage style and the addition of new developments for the current consumers. Overall our team wants to bring together the heritage of Champion to create the future collegiate wear for superfans. With our inspiration from trend forecasting and outsourcing, we hope to bring together multiple generations with their love of university athletics. Our mission is to create a blend between the 90’s and modern day to create a line that excites the consumer  to represent the place they love.

Phase I: New Style Development and Flats

Phase II

The objective for this project was to utilize existing Mizzou vault graphics to develop a curated vintage assortment utilizing existing Champion blanks to launch into the bookstore for back-to-school 2024. Our team created 16 new Vault graphics (provided by Champion) across men's, women's, and youth blanks (provided by Champion). The assortment included 8 Men's/unisex, 4 women's, and 4 youth designs. Our team received feedback from the Champion Team throughout Phase II. Feedback was incorporated into the final presentation and designs. There was a preliminary review after our initial designs were created, and Champion gave feedback for implementation into the final review. The final review presentation was completed at the end of Phase II. We presentented to the Champion Team, peers, and Mizzou licensing and bookstore buyers and representatives.
